An appropriate employment gives rise to the happiness for an employee, enhances his or her satisfaction with their career, and improves the efficiency of work processes. One of the purposes of higher education is to train skilled labor force for the society and the employment market. In other words, higher education is responsible for creating the necessary knowledge, skill, and attitude for the employment. The present paper, based on the current theoretical viewpoints, tries to answer the following question: "Why do the university graduates prefer to continue their education at higher levels instead of finding employment in the labor market?" اشتغال، عامل موثر در رشد اقتصادی، توزیع درامد و حفظ کرامت انسانی است. اشتغال مناسب، مایه سعادت انسان و باعث رضایت شغلی، کارایی و اثر بخشی فرد است. از طرفی، یکی از اهداف آموزش عالی، تربیت نیروی انسانی کارشناس و مورد نیاز برای جامعه و بازار کار است. به عبارت دیگر، وظیفه ایجاد دانش، مهارت و نگرش مورد نیاز برای اشتغال افراد را بر عهده دارد. در این مقاله سعی شده با توجه به دیدگاه های نظری موجود، به بررسی این مورد پرداخته شود که «چرا افراد ادامه تحصیل در دوره های تحصیلات تکمیلی را بر اشتغال در بازار کار ترجیح می دهند؟» https://stpl.ristip.sharif.ir/article_1198_cceca5ec80b8bb49b6cd9cc8cc9c14c9.pdf
